Spring Update… It’s almost Race Season!!

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, figured it was time for an update as it’s almost race season… That’s right, if you’re doing Ironman Canada this year you only have 88 more days of training.  If you didn’t get the memo it’s in July this year!

A lot has happened with me over the last few months, some good, some bad, some unexpected.  For whatever reason Jenna and I both got taken down hard this year multiple times during cold and flu season.  It was extremely frustrating but not as frustrating as an injury, so I won’t moan about it too much.  Thanks to some rest, some just pushing through and some help from Nina at Pacifica Naturopathic, it seems like we’re both back on track now with our health, training and I finally feel like I’m finding some really good form.

I’ve recently joined Pacific Tri-Works led by Noa Deutsch.  It’s a junior elite and high performance development squad based in Vancouver.  It’s been an eye opening experience to say the least and the crew is definitely going to push my limits this year.  It’s a good thing I can hold my own on a bike because my confidence takes a regular beating at the pool and track on a weekly basis.  If you happened to take a look at last weekend’s Delta Triathlon results you’ll see what I’m talking about, the juniors from the squad took 1st, 3rd and 4th in the overall. It should make for a very interesting race at the North Shore Triathlon in a few weeks time.

I am also really excited to announce that I am partnering with Sugoi Performance Apparel this year and representing them as a part of their brand champion program.  Since my introduction to triathlon I’ve had amazing experiences training in their gear.  It’s pretty insane looking in our closet at home and seeing the amount of Sugoi gear we’ve accumulated over the past few years. With their huge involvement with Ironman as well it felt like a perfect fit.  I’ve already had a couple sit downs with the awesome crew in their marketing department and we’ve got some very cool things planned for this year on the road to Ironman Canada.  Looking forward to sharing a few more details very soon.

Hands down THE BEST waterproof cycling jacket, the Sugoi RSE NeoShell. Stayed completely dry in an absolute monsoon!

Brooks Running will also be covering all of my footwear needs this year which I’m extremely stoked about.  I’ve been loving the Brooks Cascadia 9 I’ve been running on the trails with for the last month and recently set a 10k PB running in the Brooks Launch on Sunday.  I’m really looking forward to racing in their footwear this year!!

Somehow exiting the door for a run these days takes some serious decision making.

We also had our Darkside Triathlon Kits show up about a month ago that everyone seems to be really stoked on.  We ordered these through Sugoi’s custom program and we couldn’t be more happy.  Their turnaround time was insanely fast and the kits turned out great.

The new steed in all her glory, well almost. Looking forward to posting pics with my wheels on it.

Last, but BY FAR not least my new bike showed up a couple weeks ago at North Shore Road Bike, the new Felt IA.  This thing is an absolute beauty and from the sounds of things is in short supply and very high demand.  I’ve already taken it out for a few really big rides and the bike just flies!  We almost have my fit dialed in perfectly and I can’t wait to throw the race wheels on this beast and drop the hammer in my first race.  I’ve got a very good feeling about this year!!

A big thanks to my friend Joe Lepine, Rich and Jaime at Sugoi and to Gray from Brooks Running. I’m really looking forward to working with you all this year!
