In 2011, my wife and I were introduced to the sport of triathlon when a friend encouraged us to sign up for a Sprint Triathlon clinic.  I didn’t grow up swimming, I had no background in track and field, and the only type of bike I owned was a full suspension downhill mountain bike.  Through countless early mornings at the pool, late night solo sessions at the track and a relentless commitment to just doing the work day in and out, I have gone from a complete triathlon newbie to an 11-time Ironman finisher.  I have crossed the line on Ali’i Drive at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, been the Amateur Champion at Ironman Canada twice including taking the overall win there in 2017.  I have taken the amateur win at various 70.3’s and won various local sprint and standard distance triathlons.  There are no secrets to my success, the key components have been a training approach based on consistent hard work, continued learning, and surrounding myself with the right individuals and businesses to lean on for support.

I believe sport has the power to transform our lives; it has made me a stronger more confident person and has changed the way I view and approach other aspects of my life.  I think too often in life we hastily toss our dreams to the wayside because we are fearful they aren’t possible, we quickly reach for convenient excuses as the process of chasing them may not conform to society’s suggested template of how we should live our lives.P1230071

Outside of sport I am a Chartered Professional Accountant with over 10 years of experience.  I worked through my studies while training and working full time.  I graduated with my CPA, CGA designation in 2015 and have a Business Commerce Degree.  The same philosophies I employ with my approach to athletics, I apply to business as I find the key ingredients to build a foundation for success are often the same.

I run a triathlon coaching business, Darkside Racing, helping others in pursuit of their dreams.  I have learned a great deal through both my successes and failures in the sport and am always eager to share these experiences with others.  It’s been a privilege and a very rewarding experience to be a part of other athletes’ journeys and I look forward to continuing to work and develop as a coach in the years to come.

There are no sure things in life but I am a firm believer if you persistently put in the hard work, surround yourself with the right team, and use a very well thought out approach, the odds will start to move in your favour and then… anything is possible.

I currently reside in North Vancouver, BC with my beautiful wife, Jenna, our son Liam and our rowdy little Boston Terrier, Oscar.
